newThank you, A Book for All Seasons, Leavenworth, WA, for hosting me today at a signing of my middle grade novel, Brother Beast. The best moment of the day - when a mittened pod of kids trundled in from the cold, saw my many green  name tags of 'author,' (one stuck to my chest, one to my leg, and one to my arm) ,and hollered, "You're an author? You wrote that book?" I drew them in further, pointing to the bat skeleton on the cover, and asked, "Do you know what that is?" We chatted. One guy, the kid with the purple stocking cap, managed to convince his parents that he just had to read this book. His chubby-cheeked friend didn't fare so well in the convincing department, so instead of getting a book, he asked for my signature on his new spiral pad. He smiled and said, "I'm writing a book."
